🤖User Interaction and Platform Mechanics
Navigating the BattleChan Experience
BattleChan offers a dynamic and interactive platform where users control the content and contribute to the community. This chapter explains the core functionalities of BattleChan, detailing how users can engage with the platform to maximize their experience and impact.
Creating Posts: Users start by connecting their Internet Identity to ensure a secure and anonymous profile. They can then create posts by selecting a category (e.g., Politics, Business, Games), adding a title, composing the body text, and optionally attaching images or other multimedia. Posting on BattleChan is free, and each new post starts with an initial visibility timer set to 30 minutes, allowing the community to engage with it immediately.
Voting Mechanism: The visibility of posts on BattleChan is directly influenced by user interactions:
Upvotes: Each upvote on a post adds 5 minutes to its visibility timer, encouraging more users to view and interact with the content.
Downvotes: Each downvote subtracts 5 minutes from the post’s timer, speeding up its transition to the archive if the community finds it less valuable or inappropriate.
Token Rewards and Distribution:
Content Creators: After the initial visibility period, content creators can choose to 'withdraw' $TIME tokens accrued from upvotes, receiving 75% of the total tokens associated with their post. However, withdrawing too much time can risk the post being archived sooner due to a reduced visibility timer.
Commenters: Commenters who receive at least five upvotes on their comments are eligible to share in the remaining 25% of the $TIME tokens from a post. This mechanism rewards users for adding meaningful discussions and insights to the content.
Archiving Mechanism: When a post’s visibility timer reaches zero, it is automatically archived. Archived posts are still accessible on the platform but are moved out of the primary viewing areas, making room for newer content. This system ensures that the most relevant and popular content remains in the spotlight.
Community-Driven Moderation: BattleChan’s self-moderation feature allows the community to manage the visibility of content. By upvoting or downvoting posts, users directly influence what is seen or hidden. This ensures that content moderation reflects the collective preference of the community, without the centralized censorship or hidden agendas found on centralized platforms.
Category and Tag System: To enhance content discoverability, users can filter posts by categories and tags. Only 20 posts can be visible per category at any given time, which means posts effectively battle each other for prominence on the platform. This competitive environment is why the platform is named BattleChan—it's a battle between posts, particularly notable with political opinions that may be aggressively downvoted by those with opposing views.
Through these functionalities, BattleChan empowers its users to actively shape their social media environment. By participating in content creation, voting, and discussion, users not only enjoy a rich and engaging experience but also contribute to the platform’s evolution and the quality of discourse within the community.
